Most creator platforms charge you a flat percentage of everything you spend. The bigger you get, the bigger the check you write them — for the same software, the same rails, the same work.

We think that pricing is backwards. This post lays out how Lucra prices instead, shows the math on a real volume example, and lets you run your own number.

The old way: a flat tax on growth

The old way of paying for creator marketing looks like this:

<ul class="my-5 flex flex-col gap-2.5 type-body type-leading-copy type-regular text-foreground/75 [&>li]:relative [&>li]:pl-5 [&>li]:before:absolute [&>li]:before:top-[calc(0.5lh-2.5px)] [&>li]:before:left-0.5 [&>li]:before:size-1.5 [&>li]:before:rounded-full [&>li]:before:bg-border">

You pay creators for content and performance.

On top of that, the platform takes a flat percentage of each base. Trybe's published pricing is 1.25% of ad spend and 1.5% of attributed sales.

Those percentages never change, no matter how large you get.

At small volume, that feels painless. At $100,000 a month in attributed sales, 1.5% is $1,500; at $100,000 a month in ad spend, 1.25% is $1,250.

At scale, it stops being painless. At $1,000,000 a month in attributed sales, 1.5% is $15,000 a month — $180,000 a year. At $1,000,000 a month in ad spend, 1.25% is $12,500 a month — $150,000 a year. Either way it is taken off the top, before you have paid for the creative itself, the media, or your team. Against typical ecommerce net margins of around 20%, that is not a rounding error. It is a success tax: the better your creator program works, the more you pay for permission to keep using it.

Nothing about the platform's cost to serve you grows at the same rate. Your fee does anyway.

The new way: no subscription, and a rate that steps down

Lucra takes a different approach.

There is no subscription on the standard plan. Creators pay nothing — the fee is charged to the brand. And the fee itself is degressive: it is charged in marginal brackets each month, and the rate falls as your monthly volume rises.

If the number surprises you, that is the point. Most brands have never seen their platform fee isolated as a monthly line item at their current volume — they have only felt it as a percentage that sounded small.

A lower headline rate means little if the costs reappear elsewhere, so here is the rest of the pricing in the open:

<ul class="my-5 flex flex-col gap-2.5 type-body type-leading-copy type-regular text-foreground/75 [&>li]:relative [&>li]:pl-5 [&>li]:before:absolute [&>li]:before:top-[calc(0.5lh-2.5px)] [&>li]:before:left-0.5 [&>li]:before:size-1.5 [&>li]:before:rounded-full [&>li]:before:bg-border">

Creators pay nothing. The Lucra fee is charged to the brand.

Standard withdrawals are free. Creators who want instant withdrawals can choose them for 1.5% (minimum 50¢) — optional, and paid on that withdrawal.

Partner-managed ads are separate. If a partner manages your ads through Lucra, that adds 2% of managed ad spend by default. It is not included in the comparison above, because brands that do not use partner-managed ads do not pay it. [2]

Creator payouts are separate on every platform. What you pay creators — flat rates, CPM, view bonuses, a percentage of ad spend or GMV, or a flat rate per conversion — is your program cost, not a platform fee. It is excluded from both sides of the comparison above. [1]

That separation matters. On Lucra, the same rails cover creator onboarding, programs, payments, ads, messages, usage rights and whitelisting, contracts, and tax and compliance through Stripe Connect — available hosted or embedded in your own product, with API and MCP access. You are not paying the degressive fee for a checkout button. You are paying it for the infrastructure underneath the whole creator program.

Who this matters most for

If you are spending under $100,000 a month, the difference is real but modest — at $100,000 a month it is $250 a month on the attributed sales / GMV base and $0 a month on the ad spend base in the table above, because both models charge 1.25% on that first ad spend bracket. The reason to switch at that size is the trajectory, not the first month's saving.

If you are spending $500,000 to $2,000,000 a month, or growing toward it, the fee structure itself becomes a strategic decision. A flat rate makes your platform more expensive in lockstep with your success. A degressive rate makes your platform cheaper, in percentage terms, with every step up — and leaves more of each incremental dollar in the program that earned it.

That is the choice, stated plainly:

<ul class="my-5 flex flex-col gap-2.5 type-body type-leading-copy type-regular text-foreground/75 [&>li]:relative [&>li]:pl-5 [&>li]:before:absolute [&>li]:before:top-[calc(0.5lh-2.5px)] [&>li]:before:left-0.5 [&>li]:before:size-1.5 [&>li]:before:rounded-full [&>li]:before:bg-border">

Old way: pay Trybe's flat rates forever — 1.25% of ad spend and 1.5% of attributed sales — on every dollar, no matter how big you get.

New way: pay no subscription, start at 1.25%, and watch the rate step down to 0.50% as you scale.

[1] Same-base comparison. Both fees in the examples are calculated on the same monthly base — ad spend, or attributed sales / GMV for revenue-share programs — to keep the comparison honest. In practice, what each platform counts as its fee base, and when it counts it, can differ by program type and contract. Check the base definition in any agreement before signing.
